PestCalc for Windows

Q.  Why do I need PestCalc for Windows?

If you are confident of your pesticide rate calculation, then you DON'T need it. If you are not, then you DO need it. Here are some of the reasons for using the recommended rate found on pesticide labels:

  1. The recommended rate is the proven, documented, and well-researched usage rate of the pesticide by the manufacturer and has been certified to be the most effective against specific target pests, the least harmful to the target crops, with the minimum adverse effect on the environment in the long run.

  2. Applying pesticide under or in excess of the recommended rate results to either marginal/inadequate control of target pests or undesirable injury to both target crops and beneficial insects and other organisms. The former leads to the development of pesticide resistance while the latter adversely affects yield and quality of harvested product. Excessive application also leads to unpredictable accumulation of runoff pesticides which impacts not only the environment but also the performance of succeeding crops and survival of beneficial organisms.

  3. Using the correct rate gives you the most bang for every dollar you spent on pest control and therefore is an important element that affects the bottom line of your business.

  4. It is the law. Application using the recommended rates is mandated by both federal and state laws.

Q.  I only got me an old 486-type computer, would PestCalc for Windows run on it?
PestCalc for Windows was designed to be lean. If you can run at least Windows 95® on your machine then more likely PestCalc would run on it without any problem.

Q.  Pesticide calculation procedures and formula are all over the Web, why would I need PestCalc?

ALL web sites are prone to disconnection for whatever reason and this web site is no exception. If you cannot connect to a reference web site then you would be unable to do all those step-by-step calculations contained in it. On the other hand, when you licensed and installed a copy of PestCalc for Windows, it would always be in your computer ready to be invoked at anytime or anywhere (if you got it loaded in a laptop). It's always there when you need it even when your Internet connection is down!

Q.  How does PestCalc for Windows handle metric units?

PestCalc for Windows has a built-in unit conversion routine. If you entered an English unit (i.e., acre) as an input to a calculation and clicked on a metric unit (i.e., liters) from the pull down menu in the "Calculated Result" section of the interface, PestCalc internally converts gallons (the default unit) to liters automatically without any extra effort required on the user's part. Please see usage demo in the How To Do Rate Calc... page.

Q.  I downloaded the trial version of PestCalc for Windows. It expired after 30 days. What do I do next?

Trial software allows potential users to install and evaluate a software so they can decide for themselves whether it would be a good and efficient tool to use for their own specific purpose. After the trial period, the user may either decide to continue using the software or not use it at all. If and when a user decides to keep the software, it needs to be registered with the author or seller. On payment of the approprite fee (license or subscription), the user will be emailed an activation key that would convert the trial version into a legally licensed copy with no expiration. The subscription version expires 370 days after the first use of the software at which time it would display a reminder to renew the subscription. For PestCalc for Windows, trial version can be registered by visiting http://www.agrosoftsystems.com/orderPW.html and clicking the "Buy Now" or Subscribe button associated with the software.

AgroKeeper for Windows

Q.  I downloaded the demo version.  It was asking me for my UserName ("Licensed to:") and License No.?  What do I do?

The demo version was designed to start and function just like the licensed version BUT without the need to enter the UserName and License Number (aka registration info).  After installation, AgroKeeper will display a splash screen where you will be prompted for the registration info.  Just left-click on the "Cancel" button to continue with your record-keeping session.  You may use the software for 30 days without having to enter the registration info.  After the testing time has elapsed, you will need to purchase a license to use it for as long as you like.

Q.  What added functionality does the latest version of AgroKeeper for Windows offer?

There is no difference in functionality between the old and the new version.  This new version fixes the intermittent problem (bug) that other users had reported about AgroKeeper's failure to save newly added records AND having them printed under the same session.  This problem has not been observed if you exit the session and then have the saved records printed at a later time.  Similarly, this was not observed if records were saved to a file, read the file into a word processing program, and then printing them off it.

Q.  How do I update to the latest version of AgroKeeper for Windows?

Download the latest version from:

http://www.agrosoftsystems.com/download/SetupAgroKeeper2005.zip

Here's what you do:
1.  Go to the folder where you installed the current AgroKeeper and copy the file named Rkeep.mdb to a temporary file.  This file contains all the records you entered in your currently installed version of AgroKeeper.  Also, write down the User Name and Serial/License number information contained in the Splash page of AgroKeeper.
2.  Uninstall you current copy of AgroKeeper by going to Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/Highlight AgroKeeper/Click on Change/Remove Program
3.  Download the new AgroKeeper version from the above location.
4.  Unzip and install the new version.  It would automatically create a shortcut to your desktop.
5.  Go to the folder where you install the new version (default is c:\Program Files\AgroKeeper).  Enter the User Name and License No. information as appropriate.
6.  Copy the file named Rkeep.mdb (the one you saved to a temporary folder earlier) to the installation directory of the new version.  If prompted if you want to overwrite the file, click Yes/OK.
7.  Start AgroKeeper by left-clicking the shortcut from your desktop.
This new version would now save all your entered data as you expected.
NOTE:  We still suggest that you save your records as a file in TXT format where you can read it into a word processing program and where you can control the paging of the records.  You may use a smaller font (size 8 or 10) to make a record fit to a page.

Q.  Instead of printing them out, can I save my records to a file and then print them out from it?

Yes, you can.  Here's how you do it:

1.  Start AgroKeeper and click on the "View/Print Reports" button.  A spray record will display.  On the upper left-hand corner is an icon of a printer and right next to it is an icon of a diskette.  Click on the diskette icon and a window to save (export) the file will appear.  Choose a meaningful name for your file, for example AllSpraysInMarch2005 AND click down on the "Save as type:" and choose Text (*.txt) from the pull down menu.  BE SURE to note down the location of the file you just saved!
2.  Exit AgroKeeper and find the file that you saved and single RIGHT click on it.  Select "Open with" and then "Notepad" or any good word processing program.  Notepad will open with all your saved records loaded in it.  You will notice that the letterings would be too big and the alignment of text are all messed up.  To get the right size,  click on the the "Edit" menu of Notepad then select "Select All", and then click on "Format".  Select "Font" under it then select font size 10.  After you do this the table will have just the right size and the alignment would be perfect.  You can now make all the adjustments you need including deleting empty pages and adjusting the paging to your heart's delight!
